O ne defining feature of the modern gay experience is using dating apps. It makes it a lot easier to put yourself out there and meet new people, but it takes away the meet-cute charm of bumping into the love of your life at Starbucks. Dare we say that Tinder is even more complicated for gay people? We dare. Straight people are always surrounded by other straight people, which means they have a lot of romantic options. For others like me — Jacob , Tinder takes away some of the charm of meeting people organically. I like the idea of running into the love of my life in a cafe. I daydream about crushing on a guy for a few weeks, drunk texting him and then striking up a romance. I cannot imagine a better place to meet my future husband than a Lady Gaga concert. But when I express frustration with boys or my love life, the easy and immediate answer is to just get a Tinder.

The online MPH degree is very flexible, offering the same top quality standards required by the on-campus MPH degree, and taught by the same faculty members. The curriculum offered by the Bloomberg School of Public Health for its MPH incorporates more than online courses and gives variable options in a wide range of disciplines. Though this is an online program students are obligated to attend several on-campus courses.
The program begins with a one-day orientation on campus, followed by a one or two-week on-campus Problem Solving in Public Health course. In total at least 20 percent of studies must be done in person, at the University, resulting in at least 16 of the required 80 credit units being earned this way. The time spent on campus amounts to four weeks or more spread over a two to three-year period. The core curriculum makes up about 40 percent of the course, the balance being made up of elective subjects, meaning that students can customize the MPH according to individual interest and overall goals.
Focus areas are vast and varied, ranging from traditional spheres like health economics, epidemiology, and data analysis to bioethics and human rights, disaster and refugee health, and risk sciences. Other focus areas include child and adolescent health, technology for public health research, demography, evaluation and quality improvement, food and nutrition, infectious diseases, pharmacoepidemiology, and US health policy.
Applicants for the Johns Hopkins University MPH program must have completed at least two years of professional, full-time employment, post-bachelor degree, or have a doctoral degree in a field of public health. They must also have studied one math course, one health-related science, and one biology course at college. Applicants with an advanced degree may apply for a waiver of the test requirement.
Other items required include a full, up-to-date resume, a personal statement, and transcripts from academic institutions where the student previously studied after high school, and three letters of recommendation.
